Dr. Ssebunya Edward Kasule - Chairman

He is a husband and father of three sons. He is a College/University Political Science Teacher. He attended Makerere University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. He earned two masters degrees in Communication and Political Science at the IllinoisStateUniversity. He obtained a doctorate of philosophy (Ph.D.) in political science at Purdue University in Indiana. He worked as a Residence Hall Coordinator at the Illinois State University, while working on his graduate degrees. As a Residence Hall Coordinator, he managed operations of a residence hall, counseled students, and advised students’ organizations. Dr. Kasule has been a very active member, volunteer and supporter of the Uganda Community in Greater Chicago for many years. He was sworn in as the new UCIGC Chairman Board of Director on December 17, 2011.

Mrs. Winfred N. Lwalanda - Secretary

She is a Sales Coordinator at the Union League Club of Chicago, which is rated as one of the top best city clubs in North America. She is married to Mr. John Sekindi Lwalanda. She has lived in Chicago since September, 2001 and she has been a very active member of UCIGC. She holds a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management from Keller Graduate School of DeVry University, Chicago, IL. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management from Makerere University Kampala, Uganda, and a diploma in Secondary Education from I.T.E.Kyambogo, Uganda. Winfred’s career started as a teacher of Home Economics to adolescent girls at Gayaza High School, Uganda, from where she became Tour/Reservations Manager at Gorilland Safaris Limited Uganda, before coming to Chicago. She has co-authored the Housecraft series of text books used in secondary schools in Uganda. She is also a freelance author for the Human Resource Association of Uganda quarterly magazine. Her greatest hobby is reading and sharing knowledge. She has been serving on the UCIGC Board of Directors since 2011.

Ms. Scholastica Nakitto - Board Member

A Social Worker by profession, Ms. Scholastica Nakitto was the first elected female president of UCIGC. She has been actively involved in Community organizing activities since the 1970s. She played a Co-founding role in the subsequent formation of the present day UCIGC. She is very industrious, straightforward and committed to the cause of the Ugandan Community in Greater Chicago. She has served on the UCIGC Board of Trustees since its formation to present. She works as a Child Protection Specialist with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). She has a three decade long working experience and knowledge of the Illinois policies/ regulations and laws that protect children from abuse and neglect. Ms. Scholastica Nakitto is a recipient of the UCIGC Distinguished Service Award 2011.

Mr. Richard Mbazzi - Board Member

Mr. Richard Mbazzi is a former Youth Minister in the Bugosa Kingdom in Uganda. He migrated to Chicago land, United States, in the early 2000s. His outgoing personality and his incredible leadership skills helped to form and shape and laid a fundamental structural change in the Uganda Community in Greater Chicago as we know it today. He committedly chaired the Constitutional Review Commission that drafted and wrote the current UCIGC Constitution. He hosted and chaired several critical meetings that helped to form and run the Uganda Men’s Forum in Chicago. He is a steadfast and visionary leader who constantly gives counsel to the upcoming community leaders. He has been serving on the UCIGC Board of Directors since 2011. Mr. Mbazzi is a recipient of the UCIGC Distinguished Service Award 2011.

Mr. John Bisegerwa - Board Member

Mr. John Bisegerwa is the former two-term UCIGC President (2009-2013). He is a former President of the Uganda Men’s Forum in Chicago (2008-2009). He is an Accountant by Professional. He is a husband and father. He has worked with several Community-Based Organizations both in the United States and Uganda. Under his able leadership, UCIGC underwent fundamental restructuring in various aspects, for instance; a new Constitution was written and enacted, and a New Website was created. Youth and Children Educational/Social Programs were initiated. . He has been serving on the UCIGC Board of Directors since 2014.
